About us
You Have the Ability to Excel
Every heart deserves a caring companion.
Our Story
Excelling Abilities was founded by Sioeli Mailau and Sione Fotu, two passionate Polynesian support workers who recognised a significant gap in support for people living with disabilities and mental health challenges who have experienced incarceration. After spending more than five years working in the disability sector, they developed valuable skills in leadership, client and staff coordination, relationship building, complex care, mental health support, and collaboration with allied health professionals and legal practitioners. Through their work in community support and domestic violence programs in Mount Druitt, they witnessed the challenges faced by individuals transitioning back into society. This inspired them to create Excelling Abilities—a service dedicated to providing guidance, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities for people rebuilding their lives.

The Four Golden Pillars Program
The Four Golden Pillars Program is a 10-week culturally grounded mentoring and life-skills initiative designed to support young people involved in the youth justice system. Built on the pillars of Respect, Humility, Loyalty, and Maintaining Connections, the program uses group discussions, role-play, games, and reflection activities to help participants develop positive identity, emotional awareness, communication skills, and healthy relationships.
At the heart of the program is relationship-building — showing up consistently for young people during their most difficult moments. Beyond the 10 weeks, we continue supporting participants as they transition back into the community through mentorship, employment pathways, and ongoing encouragement. For us, this work is more than a service — it is about reminding young people that their past does not define their future.
